How bad will the Leafs suck this year?
As the 2008 NHL season dawns upon us, there are so many questions surrounding my beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. I just want to throw a few out there and see if this stirs any discussion. (I'm guessing hell no, but why not, i'm entertaining myself.)
1) Will Fletcher be the GM all season? Is there discussion/negotiations in place to bring Brian Burke in from Anaheim at season's end?
2) How will Ron Wilson do in his first year in TO? His success rate in his past stops is high, however with this group of players, we will truly see how good of a coach he really is.
3) Who will wear the C this year? Since Mats Sundin is trying to be a poker ambassador, or the Roger Clemens of the hockey world, the captaincy will most likely go to defenseman Tomas Kaberle. However, will the soft spoken foreigner be the leader the Buds need???
4) Turnover...We lost Tucker, McCabe, Wellwood, Raycroft (no big loss there), Sundin for now, who will step up and replace this veteran core? I don't see Kubina, Stajan, Steen, or ANYONE for that matter that will pick up the slack.
5) Are the Leafs simply going to tank this year in order to be in a position to draft John Tavares?
6) Will Fletch make a run for some veteran scoring mid season, or at the trading deadline? What is the plan long term for this club?
All these questions, and im sure more will play themselves out this season. Im really not looking forward to another year of lifeless hockey out of this club. It will be interesting to see how the new leadership struggles thru this winter.
